| What is the Crescent Beach Challenge?
• The CBC is a family-organized fundraiser consisting of running, paddling and swimming events to honor and support those affected by leukemia, lymphoma and other blood-related cancers. This year’s CBC is the 10th Annual and will be held June 14, 2008.
• The CBC was started in 1999 in honor of Nancy Chellemi, mother of two, who died of leukemia in 1998. Each year, the CBC continues to honor Nancy and her family by reuniting old friends and forging new friendships all while having a fun day at the beach and raising money for those less fortunate. A CBC tradition has been for Nancy’s surviving husband ‘DanO’ Chellemi to paddle a lei out to sea.
• The event is held on the beach at Mary's Street Access Ramp which is 1.5 miles north of the main ramp at Crescent Beach (where SR206 meets A1A). Crescent Beach is approximately 10 miles south of St. Augustine and 30 miles north of Daytona Beach
• Races (you can just cruise with your friends if you’re less competitive) are held in the morning with an awards ceremony and cookout to follow. Most people hang out and “beach it” the rest of the day.
• Money is raised through participant registration, contributions and business sponsorships. All proceeds are donated to the North Florida Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.leukemia-lymphoma.org). More than $110,000 has been donated to the Society in the previous nine years the CBC has been held.
